Default 6 cylinder 8 cylinder hitch weight 500 vs 740 why

Need to know why a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee tongue weight rating is higher on a V8
Is the frame struts bigger n stronger or is it just the engine is bigger

Could be a higher spring rating, I have no idea, most of us in Chat have old vehicles, lol. Try posting in Grand Cherokee Tech. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/

Its unibody it has no frame,But normally a v8 will always out tow a 6 cylinder.A v8 has more power and normally a bigger trans and bigger rear end and heavier springs to handle its weight.

Ding ding ding. And there's your answer. It's equipped with better pulling power.

And towing you want the biggest engine you can get so it will pull at a lower rpm and have less stress on the engine.

Never trust a car salesman they will say anything to make a buck.If you really want to know ask jeep what all is different between the two.

I don't understand what you still don't understand.

The engine is bigger. You have two extra cylinders with good displacement. The transmission is rated higher to put up with the higher engine torque, and the suspension is beefed up with extra spring rate to make the ride nicer with the larger engine.

You still seem confused? Bigger stuff == better towing capacity. Does that not answer your question?

There probably are. They might respond if you posted your question in the correct forum.

^This, in addition to the extra power/torque in the engine the V8 comes with a "truck" transmission, the 65RFE (the same trans used in the Ram 1500), while the V6 has the Daimler W5A580 which is a "car" transmission (also used in the Charger/Challenger and Mercedes S class). If you are not towing the W5A580 is probably a better trans (reliability wise), but the 65RFE was designed for heavier vehicles and towing so it is rated to tow significantly more and handle more torque. The suspension is beefed up on the V8 as well. I believe the rear diff is the same (all WK2 have IFS/IRS) but am not 100% certain of this, it may be beefed up on the V8 as well.

Can either tow your 4,000lb. trailer (from the OPs other thread)? yes, but the with the V8 you will be putting much less stress on it reducing the risk of premature wear/failure of the drivetrain and suspension.

Most of us on this forum are xj exports,And on the grands anything past 04 most of us jack about the new stuff. As far as towing i rather use a pickup vs any suv because of the pickups wheel base is longer. The longer wheel base helps when you tow bigger stuff you have less trailer sway and the trailer trying to drive you.
