4.5" with 31 and 32" tires thread
I wanted to make this thread cause I plan on getting a 4.5" rusty's spring lift but am having difficulty deciding on which of the two sized tires I want. I know 32"s have the potential to rub but 31"s look like the jeep is just craving a bigger size. This will be a 80% dd and 20% field riding and playing with the flex, and occasional trips to Rausch and Delaware. So please post your jeeps state the size and tell me what you would recommend for me I have an 88' 2 door

Haha thanks, I know I should of done that first but I also wanted to get some recommendations from people and advise since I don't want to trim anything but see a 50-50 between trimming and non trimming, I plan on buying a non-nobby tire the falken wild peak so that lessens the chance of rubbing

1988 right? I think the older body style looks wayyy better trimmed
I just did mine it's really not so bad. bigger tires look a bit ridiculous stuffed into stock fenders..
it makes a big difference. still stock. swaybar delete

I was thinking I would trim the flare to the top of the bumper, maybe one day if I do lift it get new fiberglass fenders. But i personally love the looks of the flares grey with the side panels

I had 31's and was completely happy with them. They didn't look bad at all in my opinion, and for a daily driver with the occasional wheeling trip they worked great for me! I then replaced them with 32x11.50's and i think they look a lot better! it gave the jeep a more aggressive appearance, but i lost some performance, and they rubbed on my front flares, hence the bushwhackers You can stuff 32's without rubbing with some minimal fender trimming, and proper bump stopping. Mine only rubbed on the front bottom tip of the flare. I removed the Air dam and that helped, but my problem is my lower control arms are longer, so my axle sits farther forward then most jeeps. So chances are on your jeep the tires wouldn't rub in the front. I can't remember if the rear rubbed at full flex. I'd imagine they would considering my tires almost rub the sides of my bushwhackers at full flex. Of course the Mud terrain tires are pretty knobby, so if your going with a less aggressive all terrain, or street tire you should have no problems! Anyway If you don't ever plan on regearing then i would consider 31's. I lost a bit of highway performance when i jumped up to the 32's. With my AX-15 and stock 3.07 gears, it would struggle up hills. I have since jumped up to a 3.55 gear ratio when i upgraded my axles and that helped some, but ideally i would like to have at least 4.10's so i can have my freeway power back. I can maintain 75, but i have to shift down a lot more. Around town its hardly noticeable. Just something to consider. All things considered i would take 32's over 31's hands down! Hope this helps!

Thank you so much this has helped me so much, especially since you have an 89' 2 door, I plan on going with the falken wild peaks which seem to be more deep tread then knobby so I believe that it shouldn't affect too much on the performance and not rub. I don't flex much or at least I don't yet with stock suspension. Why were your lcas longer than what they should of been? and like I had stated before I might get new fiberglass front fenders one day if I plan on lifting it higher and getting really into it

My jeep didn't perform, or look good at all when i bought it! In fact my girlfriend at the time was so disgusted with me when i brought it home! I laughed and said it had potential, she just looked at me blankly and said yeah right!
pft. Silly girls. haha
Anyone can have a "freak of nature" jeep with a crazy amount of boredom, a slight amount of OCD, and a ridiculous amount of spare time. haha!

If you don't flex that often then yeah you'll be for sure fine with 32's. My LCA's are the stock LCA's from a Wrangler JK. They work great, especially for the price (free ), its just my front axle sits farther forward then i would like it to. If i had another 1 inch of lift then they would be perfect.
