Question 4.0 "High Output" vs "4.0"

Is their a difference between the Jeep xjs with the 4.0 High Output badge and the newer xjs with the badge that just says 4.0... the engines look the same so im assuming jeep just stopped putting the high output on for style reasons?

The high outputs of the old days have more horse power.. The newer xj come stock with the same but don't quote me on that I could be wrong but I have read the Older high out puts have more horse power then ones that do not.

From what I've read, the XJ H.O. designation started with the 1991 thru '01 year model. '90 down 177hp and '91 up 190hp.

if i rember the head, intake, and exhaust are all different
the gains on the "h.o." are small only like 10 to 20 horse and f lb/t
the no h.o. or "renix" engine is favored my many including my self because the ease of working on them just check sensors and such as where the h.o. is more of a computer controlled
the renix is also computer controlled but is more dependent on the sensors

sombody correct me if im wrong but this is how i look at the difference

I think hes talking about how on the 91-96 rear hatch it would say "High Output" and how on the 97-01 rear hatch it just says 4.0 ...

there are generally 2 different 4.0s

renix 4.0s or "non- HO" were used from 87-90. specs are already posted.
OBD1 and OBD2 jeeps or "HO" 4.0s are anything from 91-01.

if you are referring to the later models not having "high output" written then yes, it is still the same "high output" motor even though it doesn't say it.
