3-Link Or Long Arms
I want to get everyones opinion over here, yea i got knowledge and access to build my own 3-link, but.... Seems to do so and set it up right with how tight everything is, to keep my uptravel from being limited it looks like ill have to chop up my floor board to make for clearence for the UCA and too, if i build a 3-link, my UCA is gonna be on the driver side. So honestly how much diffrence in behavior is there between a true 3-link kit and say a Claytons long arm upgrade? I hear of Long arms having issues with unloading, at times causing XJs to rollover. Im gonna be running 5.5" RE Coils and 5150 bilstein shocks.

y-links, or radius arms, are the longarms that unload. they will also have binding issues. however its still an improvement over short arms, i would run a 3-link with tracbar.

See i do know the diffrence between them, i would fab up my own 3-link setup, but dont care anything about chopping up my floor board for the upper link so my uptravel wont be cut short.

well i figured that if you build a three link right. (not judging your fab abilities) then you shouldnt have to cut up your floorboards.

Also, 89Eliminator, when you built your 4-link, how much seperation at the axle and frame did you have?

Just by looking at it, it seems the floor board is gonna limit the upper link and up travel. Im sure once i start fab'n up the main crossmember ill see more of how much room ill have.

to be honest i never cared to measure. i just built it and it works and thats all i care about. i didnt want to cut the floors up so i just stuffed the uppers as high as they could go.

4 link longarms that dont require floor modification have very little separation at the frame end and/or are very low clearance. this causes a high anti squat number similar to radius arm style suspensions (with no separation at the frame end) but it is an improvement (if done right)
i will be building a 3 link midarm on the next jeep. no major floor modification. i will have great control arm angles with my high clearance axle brackets and lowish lift height. and all the nessesary travel of a longarm

long wheelbase helps ya out.
while wheeling i dont notice it much with my radius arms. but then i look at pics of my front suspension completely drooped when throttling up hills.
luckily my jeep is a lowrider.
im sure if i had a decent 3/4 link i would notice a difference

I suppose im gonna have to just put the UCA on the passenger side, not what i planned on doing and cut out the floor board and rebox it in. ZJ floor boards must be way diffrent from an XJ. I see no way a 3-Link can be set up with 30" Lowers and 35" Upper with 9 1/2" Seperation at the axle and 5 3/4" at the frame will work without having to cut out the floor board and have uptravel to the point a 35" tire almost hits the inner fender.
