so im lookin at gettin a 3 inch lift. well my stepdad says that after 2.5 you have to extend brake lines and do tc drops and sye and all this other s**t.
i read that you dont hvae to if your not gonna be crawlin that much. which im not. jus mud occasionally. so if i get a 3- 3.5 inch lift would i have to do all the things listed above? thanks for any input.

no you should be fine, that stuff mentioned isnt usually til about 4.5"

You might want to extend the brake lines if you ever want to get the full amount of flex out of it

I have about 5 on mine and dont have that stuff. I prob will drop my transfer case eventualy so everything will line up correct but it still runs and drives fine now.

As far as break lines, all we did to mine is simply move the stock bracket down a little farther from where it was and straigtened the metal line out that is above the bracket wich gave me much more play. I flex mine as far as it will go and havent had any problems.

i went 4.5" and i didnt have to extend my breaklines unless i wanted a good flex (which i did) so i did them

every XJ seems to react a little differently. Most say that 97s and newer will need at least a TC drop at 3 inches, mine didn't require one. but my brake lines were pulled pretty tight at 3 inches. Relocating the bracket would have given me a little more flex, but since i plan to go higher, i went ahead and got new cables now instead.

I just put a Rustys 3 inch lift with the new leaf springs on my '93 cherokee and that driveshaft binded with itself very bad...I had to install a 1 inch TC drop to fix it

Carver, nice two door, looks sweet! its funny how some bind and some dont, ive got what u have pluss 2 inch spacers and mind didnt but i prob will put a TC drop on anyways eventualy.


For Anybody who might have been wondering about what I was talking about when i said that i just moved the stock brake line bracket. here are a few pics to show that i took today in the light. You can see where it was because i rinolined before i moved the brake lin bracket. It was up higher and the metal line above was bet to reach. now its strait.

Do the lift and see if you have any vibes.If you do then do a tc drop.I would recommend the longer brake lines.I put a rear hose from a 96 Dakota 4x4 on mine.It is 6in longer than the xj and is a direct bolt on.I didn't have to do the front and I'm at around 4.5in.At 3in you do not need an SYE.I don't have one and have no problems.I do have a tc drop though.

You can use the front brake lines from a yj. Thats what I did because I didnt want to put that much stress on the lines at full flex. You can try the relocation thing but I for one wouldnt trust it, after all it is your brakes so better safe then sorry.

at 3 inch you need nothing but the lift and an allignment

x2. but also, it's not a bad idea to do the brake lines if you ever plan to take the sway bar off. i got longer lines and i've tied them with bungee cords. that way they stay out of the way, but will flex if i need it.

yes that is true, if you plan on doing alot of flexing then new brake lines would be something to look into

I got 3 inches of lift and all I had to do was extend the rear brake line and offset my rims(I put blocks in the back and the sway bar was going to eat my tire lol). I just bought the springs from a friend so I had to piece it together with shocks and other small stuff

yeah should have no problems with a 3 inch. thats what i have. only thing is to just get an alignment. X2 on the 4.5 you need a tc drop and brake line extensions
