Default 2wd...Impressed

So when I got my cherokee, I wanted a 4wd but got my 2wd for too good of a deal to pass up. Plan on swamping it to 4wd this summer when I find a cheap parts donor vehicle...but ever since the lift, wheels and tires...I have been itching to get some mud on it.

Took it this weekend to a lil trail by the house...was more than impressed with the 2wd. Only makes me want to do 4wd even more.

Only got a few pics of me, but this was the biggest of the mud pits we went thru. Had to hug the side because that was the most shallow part...but I didnt get stuck

A light weight vehicle with good tires can be surprising.

U would be amazed at what a 4X2 with a locking rear diff can do. Locked ours this past summer......takes about 2 hours to install.....awesome. PowerTrax No-Slip auto locker.

How much does one of those run? Would i be able to craw thru the mud slower? I dont like to have to hit the pit hard to make it thru, I feel like something is going to break.

This is true, I've been really impressed with the no-slip in mine.

Where? In the for sale forum or ebay? I just looked online and see they run $450 new.

I thought I read that a locker will blow out my rear end since I have 32's. I have been trying to read up on this, but seems that is a huge bias arguement.

I dont even know what rearend mine has

I understand that, but I dont want to blow out my rear end just because I throw a locker in since I have 32" tires. Ive always been a low life (lowered trucks and cars) for the most part so all this stuff is new to me. I lurk and read on the forums all day....and usually learn something new every day.

From the stories I've read, most of the guys who snap stuff were on rocks. Never heard of anyone breaking stuff in mud, but I haven't heard it all either.

For the price of a good locker you can swap in a front drive axle, tranny, and t-case.

I have been looking. Found out last night I have c8.25 rear end. A powertrax locker will run me about $475. A full front end swap will cost more along the lines of $1000 if I buy a doner xj that is salvaged or something.
