good with a welder? and at fabrication?
before you go cutting anything hit search and type in chop top, they can look awesome, but if you dont know what you're doing you could end up ruining a perfectly good xj, but thats just me, i tread very lightly before i jump into a project and do research for a while before i do anything

i think there are too few 2 doors to start choppin' em all up....
suckers are rare in my area, but hey its yours, do what makes you happy
if you go through with it i would suggest doing some frame stiffeners and unibody reinforcment first.
dont be a redneck a walk out with your chop saw, beer in hand, and start cutting.
like stated before do your research.
and if you've never done sheet metal/ body work i would advise against it, as its alot different than fab.
once you cut the roof away the body is gonna flex alot more than you think it would, and its hard to retain the original shape, ask me how i know (try doin a chop top)
you have to do alot of cross bracing and reinforcment before you begin the chop or youll tweak the unibody
