Are the 2016 TH better ?
Hello Ladies and Gentleman!
So im gonna start off by saying i am a car salesman / X sales man lol i have sold for Chrysler for about 5 years. i have always been a huge Jeep fan. now i sold my sister a th when they first came out it needed a new transmission. they ended up buying two cause they love them so much even tho they have had problems. i think ones 2014 and one is 2015..... now the whole point of this is im planing on trading my truck for a Jeep. either a wrangler or a Cherokee as im a huge out doors person.. always fishing , hiking, back packing and at the river i need a good off roading / weekend warrior machine. now im currently driving a 2014 ram 1500 sport with all the nice features heated seats and steering wheel ect.. so i was thinking more TH then wrangler cause im use to those things they are nice... but man looking at the problems people have been having with Cherokees even when i sold them i just dont know what to do thats the major thing holding me back right now. do you think the 2016 are alittle more solid then the 14's and 15's ?
Cause if not i will get the wrangler i know it doesnt have the creature comforts but i still love them. i am in Canada BTW.
Sorry for the ramble lol

Most guys around here will be scoffing at the idea of buying a modern Cherokee (KL). I'm... sort of one of those guys. I help a lot of people with car shopping as a bit of a passion (ironically because most of them hate dealing with sales guys, and here I am offering you my perspective to try to help), and I find myself so often saying "Newer does not necessarily mean better" painfully often. There are a number of reasons I'd never touch the KL, but if all of its problems were fixed except the transmission, I'd still never touch the thing even if you paid me--that transmission is embarrassing.
Modern Wranglers have a lot of creature comforts these days as you should know, and I know that heated seats are available aftermarket from Mopar at the very least if not as a factory option.
If I was forced to buy modern Jeep, I'd be buying a Grand Cherokee (diesel please!) or a Wrangler, but I have lost almost all of my respect for Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler. I personally draw the line at WJ's (99-04 Grand Cherokees) myself--most creature comforts are available in them or can be added, and they're old enough that they hadn't been completely "Chryslerified" yet.

for the 40k+ price tag of a KL, i could build one Heck of a nice WJ with all the creature comforts i wanted, and a solid axle for less than half that and next to no Bank payment!

The new Cherokee's are really nothing but Fiat's and it shows in quality as well as design, both are at the bottom of the chart for repairs of new cars.
If I had to buy a new Jeep for a DD it also would be a Grand Cherokee "Overland" with the diesel engine but not great joy even then. My 04 WJ Overland is in excellent condition and the last yr. of the great GC's. For a new DD/Off Road combo a Wrangler I guess giving up a lot of comforts for some off road ability. But once you dress it out for off road use it adds another 15-20K to the cost.
I have other cars and trucks but my choice for off road is my XJ and personal DD the WJ it has all the comforts that my Town Car has plus 4wd.

We have owned several nice 4wd SUV's from Ford, GM a Cadillac along with the run of the mill Blazer's, Explorers and such but none match this old WJ for features or ability for sure but it does lack the room of several we owned but that is really a plus.
After now owning it for almost 5 yrs. I do know if it had any major failures that I would have it repaired because of the quality that it has that new ones do not show IMHO or want. The options this one has would be hard to find in another in this overall shape and thus the major reason.
