2001 jeep xj 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive swap questions. plz help
thinking of buying a 2001 jeep classic xj 2 wheel drive. what ALL parts do i need to make this happen?? any special tips i should know? id buy a 4 wheel drive but this 2wd classic is in very good condition and i can get it for 2200 bucks. plus I'm having a hard time finding one around here in san diego ca. anyways, I've researched a little but just wanna be certain I'm doing this right and getting all the parts i should. also i hear there are different variations of transfer cases to get. which one would be better to get? will my tranny work? I'm gonna plan to put a 4.5" long arm lift kit on too. thanks y'all!

4wd shifter and linkage, transmission and transfer case, front driveshaft, and front axle with diff since yours doesn't have a diff. Maybe a few other things. I'm not sure if you would need a new rear drive shaft.

If you havent done the conversion yet and have any more questions let me know. We just did a 2 to 4 wheel drive conversion on my brothers 96 XJ this weekend. It was alot of work but all worth it in the end.

Go with the NP231 if you have a choice of the two when you find one. It's the stronger case and has more aftermarket support for SYE, etc.
But dont be scared of the NP242, its still a strong and stout case. You'll be fine with either one.
