Default 2001 Jeep Cherokee Laredo metal in oil

So my friend has a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Laredo that started knocking 2 weeks ago until it got so loud he took it to a shop. The mechanic.said it had metal in the oil and needs a new engine. They told him they would put a rebuilt engine in it for $2750 + $60 for blinker fuse and it would need new shocks soon. He thinks its a good deal I say no way! It looks old and it has a bad interior leak so he has to constantly keep towels on the floors to sop up water because it rains all the time here.

Am I mistaken? Is it worth it? He thinks he will be able to sell it and make more $ than he is paying to fix it.

He is going to end up putting more money into the Jeep then its worth by the way you describe it.

Agreed. Profit margin sounds higher without fixing it. Hopefully he isn't one of those that thinks their jeep is gold haha
