2000 jeep cherokee exhaust
I was wondering what muffler gives the jeep a good sound and how to keep the sensors from turning the check engine on with no cat

"Good" sound is relative. I've always liked Flowmaster, but many hate the sound.
And you've been here long enough, you should know any talk of removing a cat is forbidden. Removing a cat will neither give better sound or more power. Look into a high flow cat.

Double check, I believe they started shifting to the CA emissions on ALL Cherokees in 2000 (I know all the 2001 have CA Emissions) so you might have CA emissions. With the CA emissions, the cat is right after the header, and the sensors are located there as well. Usually, with CA emissions, the thing people "think" is a cat just before the muffler is actually a resonator, no catalytic function at all.

I added a Flowmaster super 10 series to my last xj. Sounded great, was a tad on the loud side but could still easily have a conversation with everyone in the vehicle. And on the highway at 60-70 in overdrive you couldn't even really hear it unless you stomped on it. In which she screamed
Edit* here's a sound clip of my previous xj

Count me among those who dislike them. To me they usually make a 4.0L sound like a giant lawnmower. BRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrRRRRRRrrrrrrRRRRrr. Strap a deck to the underside and mow your field, farmer.
You had a choice between CA and EPA emissions in 2000. They didn't get rid of the EPA emissions package until 2001. I have a 2000 EPA XJ, and it's so nice not to have to deal with the extra cats and O2 sensor nonsense.

This is not my Jeep, but it's the same exhaust I have on mine. It's not nearly as buzzy as the Lawnmasters. It's also not nearly as loud as the YouTube clips make it sound. You know when you hear it that it's not stock, but without it being obnoxious.

Same here, 2000 XJ EPA only, no CA. I have banks headers so I'm sure the sound will be different with a Cali setup.. But I have the Dynomax 17340. Here is what it sounds like..

Dumajones' post made me realize I should clarify: I have the Gibson cat-back, but I'm also running the Banks Torque Tubes header (not the Gibson header in the video I posted). Personally I think being able to use the Torque Tubes header is one of the advantages of having a 2000, because I have yet to hear a header that sounds better. Unequal length tubes always seem to sound more raw and aggressive to my ear.
I would be curious to know how badly the precats in the CA emissions model affect the sound, and whether that $750 Magnaflow precat downpipe is worth the money. But I'm also glad I don't have to find out on my own Jeep.

With out the cat your o2s won't work right and throw check engine lights left and right,And probably be harder on fuel in the end.Its not worth the headache or even legal problems not running one.Get a high flow one like said.

I appreciate the help... I had a new engine put in my jeep and some reason he cut the exhaust before cat and only used a clamp when putting it back together. It sounds very bad haha. I have a sensor before and after my cat. I will get a high flow cat.
