Default 2000 Cherokee bogging down and dying

I have been fighting my 2000 Cherokee Sport 4.0L, 6 Cylinder inline's cooling system since this summer. I have had it flushed at least twice, maybe 3 times, I'm pretty sure I need a new radiator. The temperature gauge goes up to the middle tick mark than backs down abot 3/4's of the to the lower tick mark. It has not over heated for 4 to 5 months, I drive 3 miles to work everyday and when I park it there is stream coming out of the passenger side of the radiator and it smells like rubber. Just today on my way home from work it started to bog down a couple of time then died and I could not get it to start, I let it sit for 2 hours and it started right up, it felt strong no loss of power. Could the temperature gauge be malfuctioning and it is actually over heating or is it a fuel pump/ignitiion problem. I changed the spark plugs yeaterday, could I have screwed somethoing up when I did that.
