well it all depends on the terrain. i mean out here in the desert of az its not too bad. only problem is large, steeper hills, soft sand, thick mud, and rather large rocks haha people are amazed at what i can do with it and the places i go. i've been able to get up stuff people in 4wd have trouble with.

However the driving style is completely different...you need to pick better lines in your obstacles, be cautious of hills, mud, rocks, etc, and remember momentum is your best friend.

An example having an lsd is a great benefit and helps quite a bit over an open dif. my best example is went out hunting in the desert and the open dif xj just sunk in the sand and dug a hole, while i've powered through it.

However getting a locker, will be magical. Remember, there are three parts to 2wd success- Traction, articulation, and momentum. getting good tires, and having lockers will complete for traction. Articulation is just keeping the rear wheels to the ground, which is extremely important. So no rear swaybar and quick discos up front. and momentum=a little heavy on the pedal

4x4 is something that is only needed here and there and I have made it through some sticky stuff when I had my 2wd 4cyl ranger, BUT I do love having my 4x4 and I do use it where I live a lot for the hills and mud around my shop.

Oh it is, better than LSD, you can go up steeper hills and much thicker mud, depending on your tire. And i agree, i got rid of my front and rear anti-sway bars a long time ago.

I would advise getting front quick disco's and keep the front sway bar. it makes thinks way better imo.

A locker is something i would like to do. But i think i need another carrier to make it work. not exactly sure what i would have to do to get it in.

One of my Jeeps is a 99 4.0 AW4 2 wheel drive and I swear that the reduction in parasitic drag makes it the fastest Jeep I own.
