1999 Jeep Cherokee is it worth getting?
I am looking at getting a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, I was wondering if these are worth getting? As well as if there is anything I should know about them, or weird things they like to do? Thanks for your help.

Absolutely!
I finally picked up a 99 model this spring for $2500 bone stock.
It had a couple neglect issues which made me ask for a lower asking price.
1.It had a very noisy front bearing hub which is probably the reason they sold it because nobody there had mechanical skills.
I replaced it as soon as I got home.
2.I replaced the valve cover gasket which was leaking oil pretty badly, cleaned up the engine compartment with brake kleen and compressed air.
3. Did a complete tune up, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, wires, and inspected and lubed everything I could.
4. Changed all the fluids/filters, even put new brake pads and rotors on and flushed the brakes.
I have been driving this vehicle for about 7 months now and it is the most fun to drive and reliable vehicle I have. and quick as hell.
I know what these puppies are capable of because I worked as a mechanic for a rental car agency when these vehicles were new and believe me when I say they can take some abuse.
We used to take them in the woods, mud, snow, have burnout contests, push-o-wars and other naughty things people who work at rental car companies do with vehicles they don't own,.lol.
Needless to say, I have always wanted a cherokee-sport since I know what they are capable of, and I'm really happy and impressed with my 99.
I can't wait to get it into some snow this winter.

My advice would be to go and drive a Cherokee, see if you like it. I didn't think I would like one until I tried it but I'm now a convert. There's just something about them!
99 is a good year for the reasons above, but a 4.0 XJ in any year is a good vehicle as long as it is in good condition. Check for rust!

The '99 is also an OBDII vehicle, so a few more emissions nits to pick, but anything with the HO 4.0 is worth owning if it's in good shape. Can you determine that? It's your best bargaining chip - like the previous '99 owner said, he got his gem for little or nothing...

OBDII is "on board diagnostics v2.0". It is the "operating system", so to speak. OBD is the computer system(s) that have been installed on most cars since the introduction of fuel injection. It consists of a computer and multiple sensors that monitor engie operating conditions and alter fuel deliveryand spark timing to optimize fuel economy and minimize emissions.
IMO is "in my opinion".

I love my 99. I've had issues with aftermarket 02 sensors burning out. But solved that with a mopar one. I had to replace the altenator and tps sensor. But that is to be expected with a 12 year old truck. I've had her since dec 2010. I did a full tune up as well. I also have a small valve cover leak, which is also normal for these trucks. That will be fixed shortly.
I drive mine daily and I love her. Once I get my damn lift installed I will love her even more. I have no worries about drivin her anywere. No regrets.
