Default 1999 Cherokee sport, good or bad?

Hello, new to site, I have a chance at getting a 99 Cherokee sport with 75,000 miles. 4.0. I'm new to the jeep world so I'm wondering what to look for and if that year had anything bad?

99 is the best year for cherokees. look for sagging leaf springs, sloppy steering, leaks around the oil pan.

99's FTW! Best year no doubt. They have the HP30 front axle, C8.25 29 spline rear axle, the best intake and lots more.

Seriously though, if the price is right and the jeep is in good shape, it doesn't get much better than that. And that mileage is extremely low for a XJ. Good luck and post some pics!

Check which head it has. Look right above the intake on the top of the block where the valve cover bolts on. I'm not sure of the numbers but I'm pretty sure 0630 is the good one. Also research how to distinguish different rear axles and see if it has a D35 or a 8.25, that is if axle size is important to you.

That and if you buy it flush every fluid in it regardless of whether the PO said they did it.

I just stated that it'll have the 8.25 and i didn't mention the head because it'll have the 0630 so no worries. Thats all if the PO didn't swap anything out.

Could be either the 8.25 or the D35. If it's got antilock brakes it has the D35. And as for the head, it all depends on when in 99 it was built. The head swap happened right at the 99/00 transition so some very late 99's got the 0331 head.

My apologies. I forgot about the late 99's or ABS.

It's all good. A lot of people forget about both aspects as well just because they weren't as common on the 99's, especially the 0331 head since so few got them.
