Default 1996 XJ sensor in rear of Cat. (Not o2)

1996 XJ Country RHD

I'm replacing my Cat. And my new one has a bung for the downstream o2 sensor. The problem is my stock Cat has a second sensor in the rear of the Cat and I'm not sure what it is or if it's even needed. It comes out with a 1/2" wrench.

That looks like an exhaust gas temp sensor to me, probably something someone added. Where does the other end of that wire connect to?

Definettly looks like a temp probe. Dunno why it's there unless someone at sometime had a bear of a time diagnosing something or just really wanted to make sure his/her cat was working.

It plugs into the device in this photo which is attached above the brake pedal.

Thank you for the replies and insite.

Did you know there's a factory recall on 1996 Cherokee XJ's for a catalytic converter replacement? If your interested just scroll down in this link and put in your VIN #.

Looks like a egt probe that you see on a diesel,No clue why youd run one on a gas engine but people do crazy things.

I assume it was made in Japan. Not 100% sure but the speedo is in Kilometers. Door tag says Manufactured by Chrysler; Imported by RHD Vehicles.
