I think you could get the hp/torque numbers to match those of the HO 4.0. The problem is the rotary would be at 8000 rpm and the straight 6 at 2000. It's not usable practical power.

Which engine?Anything efi you will have two options use the stock ecu and have it flashed to turn off everything but what is needed to run.Or you spend a grand or two to run a standalone ecu on it.With the standalone you kinda need it dyno tuned to really run prefect.

Hmmm not sure I want something light and peppy thats why the 13B came to mind.
a 13b weights 247lbs but a ls1 is right about 400lbs.But the ls1 will live a lot longer and has a better aftermarket. The cheapest engine to make power with is still a old chevy 350.Get a 383 stroker with the right heads can push close to 500hp on a stock gm block.
the bottom end in the ls series eng stock rotating assembly is extremely solid for most Street driven vehicles.
The heads flow awesome and the engine is cheap.
If I were going to swap a 13b into something, it would weigh a hell of alot less than an rx7, maybe an mgb or a triumph spitfire.
