Cordless drill battery & 2 lengths of wire with alligator clips. Heard of a guy doing this to get to the bolts on a power seat for a ZJ.

...and most won't let you bring a jump pack like the one pictured either. Or a car battery ...a cordless drill battery as stated above modified with leads as stated is probably your best bet.

Best damn thing since sliced bread, and without the case it'll drop right in your back pocket.

All of the LKQs around me let me take one of their used car batteries in with me to test horns and window motors and such, but if you can't do that, the portable battery pack shown above, or a 9v battery with some cables, can also get the trick done.

Note that not all parts will work with 9v as they may require higher voltage, but for many parts like seat motors, 9v is plenty to check if the part works or not. It'll be slower than it would be on 12v, but a 9v battery is easy to pocket with you and just check pretty quick.

hell, up here we find the odd car/truck with the battery still in them and the wheels on. we've driven some cars in the yard.

i've taken my jump pack in before. i've even taken in a generator with grinders/sawzalls.

but as mentioned, if you're a regular, they might bend some rules.

but i would just use the drill battery and keep it in the tool box then.

All the yards here are ******. NOTHING gas powered, no car batteries, no jump packs, cordless tools are ok. It will all depend on the yard where you live, and how cool they are. Most I have been to in Colorado, Texas, and Cali have all had the same rules, though...I was a regular in the Colorado LKQ yard, and no love, LOL

X2 on the cordless drill pack... you can accomplish a lot with them. I needed into the trunk of a Grand Marquis to get a taillight for my mom's car... Pulled the trunk-pop button out of the door and shorted the wires and then cut the terminals off the main battery cables to expose some copper and jammed them into the drill battery terminals... worked like an absolute charm.

thanks guys! I think I have a 12 volt drill battery or two with a broken drill I could rig up. maybe even an 18 volt one too, though probably too much power.
