Thats a decent sub and can work for you!

But before you decide on a sub what type of space do you wanna concede in the rear.

i would get a 12 i had a ten and didnt really like it as much as my 12 :rockon:

im not super concerned on losing cargo space. i dont really want a huge box tho. my only thing im worried about is spending a bunch of money on a nice 10 inch set up and then not being happy with it and then have to get a 12 :dunno:

I've had a few systems, they've always been 12". I haven't ever been impressed with 10" subs. They pound, but not to the level I prefer

You can get a 10" to fit nicely in the side panel thing in the back to save room.
Kickers are good but I enjoy my two 12" Rockford Fosgate punch 1's in the back

A good 10" in the right box will pound and sound amazing. I have a RE Se-x and it souls phenominal. I built the box eight to specs and its tuned at 32hz. I love it and wouldn't have gone with anything different with the jeep. I've been running subs my whole life mostly kickers and have had 10s 12s and 15s I can sag I really do enjoy this setup it's loud, hits lows, and has awesome SQL

But I can't stress enough it's all about the box.. you can have a 50 sub in the right box sound better then a 200 sub in the wrong box.

Its a decent box but you might need a shallow sub or something like that. Ive seen where people take off the plastic panel thats right behind where those boxes go and just cut part of the panel and add wood behind the panel to mount the sub

it says standard mounting depth is 7 inches

Personally I would never use a box like this. Its cool and all for sure if you want that clean and finished looked but if your an audio freak Sound>looks.

It's really not to bad building boxes, you get your self a sheet of MDF 3/4", see what specs the manufacturer of the sub suggests (in my case it was 1.25 cubes @ 34hz) and punch some dimensions into a box calculator, and it will give you all the measurements of the pieces you need. then you wood glue and nail gun (or screw) the box together. You also need some white caulk to get in all the corners with to make the box air tight. Most subs give you the cut out diagram made out of cardboard in their box, so you trace that onto your box make your circle cut for the woofer and you can leave the box plain wood, spray it with paint or bedliner or upholster it in fabric. Its a few hours work but nothing to bad.

xjboy, doesnt realize hes ALREADY in a box. two 8w7's or DD8's would be sick in a XJ.

like I said before I didnt last half hour with my 8's in the xj.

I couldnt imagine 2 12's in the a proper box with proper power.

FYI, there at least 20 guys on here using that box, me included\. Is it the best thing ever, NO. But if you want a soild sound and interested in sq and LISTENING TO MUSIC -it wont let you down.

If you wanna be heard down the block just throw a wall of 12's wall and go balls out.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but what's the pro's and con's for ported and sealed boxes?

Ported = louder but tends to be louder at what the box is tuned to and lower to what its not tuned to..

for example my box is tuned to 32hz, so it will hit notes at and around 32hz the best. which are low bass notes. still hits other notes nice too but just some better then others.

A sealed box is not as loud as a ported but will hit almost every frequency that the woofer is designed to around the same volume.

Ported also usually needs more space, where as sealed can take up less space.

Sealed boxes are very simple to make because all you need is the spec from the sub your using as to how much Cubes of space it needs. Ported boxes you need to make your box with cubes of space in mind but also tune it to the proper frequency as well. If you just slap together a ported box without building it in a calculator and it turns out your box is tuned to 60 hz, it will sound like dog duty.

If you buy a box at bestbuy or off ebay most of them are tuned over 40hz and dont sound very good at all.

I got no sound science, can barely whistle, and sing flat. My box was a garage gimmi, so I filled the hole with sumtin nice. Went MTX because FuShop had sale. Amp is Jack and footed the lifer warranty for both, 10" is Thunder marine, I don't worry about blowing rain, snow, or dog drool. Sony head and X4 4.5" Pioneers, it's got enough punch for me. So free box ended up hittin the pocket. I generally lay the box across the back but can stand up for makin space for a load. respect the dogs ears, no music when the pooch is ridin TB. Get a grill to protect your speaker.
