10 vs 12 inch subwoofer
I have a alpine CDE-HD137BT headunit with polk 6.5s all the way around. i plan to run a 4 channel amp to those soon. I want some more bass tho. I cant make up my mind between a 10 or 12 inch sub. I listen to all kinds of music like country, hiphop/rap, classic rock. I do like bass but i dont need anything super crazy. what would you guys suggest? i was looking at this 12 inch sub http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500SWR1...-SWR-12D4.html

I'd look for the boss diablo shallow subs if I were you, my 10" hits enough to vibe the inside but doesn't distort the music or annoy people outside.

best bang for the buck. literally. or infinity. I had both in the XJ and the infinity hits like a mother but the cone kept hitting the cover I had on it so I got the VR 10, nice indestructible boom it has. I have a cubby box and monoblock amp under the seat. |
Kickers are good subs.

I run an MTX 7500 series 10 in my XJ, it's just right.
|
I'd go with a pair of 10"s.

I got a self powered 10" Kenwood Bass tube. Gives me great bass and enough to let you feel it, make the jeep shake if you want. The head unit controls it. I used to have 2 12s in an Explorer with all the amps and crap. It's different when you got so little room in the XJ.
10" for punch 12" for loudness I find the 10" just perfect for the XJ. In my opinion. |
I'd go with a 10" sub.
Also, I'd look around at some other sites if saving money is important to you. Here's the same thing at Sonicelectronix for $170 and free shipping. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...FQGFnQodxFAAug |
I used to run a dual 10 setup, two Rockford fosgate p2 subs, in a port matched Rockford box with a 600 watt amp. It was sick it hit way harder than te 2 kicker 15s I have now. Some one broke in and stole my subs. Best system I've ever had or heard in a jeep. I will never have a system that compares to that. 10s are the way to go. They are more responsive than bigger subs, more boom with less power, and better cleaner low end bass. I'd trade my 2 15s for 2 10s any day of the week.

I tend to agree with the general consensus of 10's. The open trunk of the XJ is great since you don't have the whole trunk blocked off like they normally would in a car. I run W alpine try r 10's and they are unmatched to anything else I've heard so far with sub set ups. The trick tho is to add tweeters up front and you get loud music without distortion or too much bass

I have a 12" Kicker, it hits hard hard, and is quite loud. A 10 is probably perfect for a XJ assuming you want trunk space, I had to give up more than I would agree to 2 years later.

10" Rockford p3 dvc here in the smallest enclosure I could make. Powered by an infinity amp, hits harder and louder than I could ever want. I keep it turned down.
|
I have a 12" Alpine Type R and a Rockford Forsgate 900 watt amp (it hits hard). Now I need to upgrade to 6.5 speakers amped all around because of the distortion caused by the sub.

I have a brand new Kicker Comp 10 in a pretty shallow box (Came out of a single cab truck) and it's perfect for the country, rock and some rap/pop that I listen to. It rocks inside the Jeep but I won't lie, with the amp and box I have right now it's not set up to impress people on the sidewalk.
