01 Security Advice Needed. Column Lock?

Hi all,

I've had an issue with having my XJs stolen, 3x in the last 2 years, thankfully all recovered. I have a 96 which I have a club, lok-itt column lock (http://simjack.com:8185/) + kill switch. That seems to work pretty well.

The kill switches are nice but I'm tired of replacing steering column covers and ignition switches-thats the first thing they always bust. That's why I like the lok-itt visual deterrent and saves from getting smashed. However-Lok itt doesn't make them for the newer models. Does anyone know of another brand? Or any other security ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

the area I live in is OK-however there are some rough spots close by. There are far nicer/more valuable cars parked on the street where I live-however given how easy XJs are to steal they become a target and are one of the most stolen cars around where I live.

Get a car alarm. Only thing that is going to prevent them from taking their sweet time at 2:30 AM when everyone is fast asleep.

Or get a quick-disconnect race style steering wheel, and take it with you when you park

If they're not bothered with getting shot, arrested, drawn & quartered, etc., they're not gonna be bothered by some silly alarm. Peeps do what they do till they get caught then it's rinse & repeat.

OP, just some advise:
Personally I would advise against the "club". It's takes a thief less than 10 seconds to hacksaw through the steering wheel then remove the club. If you happen to show up at the wrong time, you've given him a weapon to be used against you.

If they want it, don't sweat it, they'll take it.

Crate train a pit bull, but instead of a crate use your cherokee.

I'm kidding, but my belgian malinois stopped a guy from carjacking me once.

Most thieves don't wanna get shot or killed,If they think your crazy and armed they never bother you again. But if your female or a small dorky looking guy your probably gonna be a target for crime because they know you won't fight back. There is a long list of anti theft devices then can slow down or stop the avg type but nothing beats a tow truck.A self loading wheel lift can grab a car in 20 secs and be gone.gps tracker could work but thats if they don't find it or are smart enough to throw brass mesh over the car which works like a faraday cage.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. Most of the issues I've had have been with low-tech thieves, steering column strip, busted ignition switch. 2 of the times it was a simple joy ride/transport issue. One time; cut my locking nuts for the wheels, and cut the cat. Therefore I think as many deterrents/things to slow down are worthwhile as they don't appear to be desperate to go for the whole car.

For those who recommended the car alarm/GPS any recommendations on models?

Also-I'm still in the spot where I'm looking for protection for the column. anyone have any ideas for that? All suggestions welcome.

Thanks!
