XJ unibody stiffeners
i was wondering about the whole corrosion protection thing too.. ive worked in a bodyshop for the last 5 years and am the quality control guy now and were all about corrosion protection weld thru primer or seam sealer but i rarely see any mention of it in a lot of big fab job posts (chopping panels and whatnot). without them the job will look good but wont last at all especially out gettin pounded by harsh conditions.. does it just go without saying as part of the build or do many people not know about it?

Interesting. My automotive background is mostly with Mustangs and subframe connectors are a must do on those cars due to the flexible chassis. With the XJ's being unibody I've been surprised I haven't seen more people installing a similar stiffening device.

i have maybe a dumb question. if frame sliders are welded on wouldn't that stiffen the unibody up pretty good. or would you still need to add onto the frame rail?

May want to go a bit past the spring hanger, I didn't and guess where the unitbody frame cracked. It goes about a foot pass the front leaf hanger now.
Haha, me too man. I had the MM full length ones on my '94GT. Subframes were the first thing on my mind for chassis mods.

I used about 6 cans of Bloxide when restoring my 72 Chevelle. You spray it on any metal that you will not be able to coat with paint after welding (lap joints, closed pockets...). The paint resists burning off during welding and allows for electrical conductivity for MIG welding. Without it, you need to find a way to get paint on all bare metal surfaces. In the vehicle assembly factory, they just dip the entire vehicle in primer before painting the body.
