Default XJ motor swap

Hey guys. I'm new to this site. I'm currently a member of SiS and still learning the ropes to offroading. I started out with a ZJ and quickly moved onto an XJ. Anyway, after several hours of work put into the XJ, does anyone know if an engine from a 96 XJ will bolt up to an 01 XJ? I'm sure I sound like a complete novice, but I could use some pointers. If you have some answers, please let me know. Thanks guys.

first-this is in no way fabrication. more o.e.m. tech.

second-the block is the same but the heads are different. 01 has distributorless ign. 96 does not. use your 01 head on the 96 block and your golden.

Yeah, I realized that after I posted in this section. My apologies, still new to the site layout. Anyway, thanks for getting back to me. That works out well considering I already had a new head put into the XJ.
