Sorry for the delay on the axle build. Been really busy working on odds and ends on the Jeep and installing new leaf springs and JKS's ACOS.
Will soon have pics of the axle having brackets/mounts being installed and new brake setup.

 

Once the axle is complete, I have to make the new Chevy 1/2 ton brakes work with the stock XJ system. I chose to use AN-4 racing stainless steel brake hoses. The race store I bought them at had all the necessary fittings to adapt them to both the stock XJ hard lines and the Chevy caliper.
Placement of the 90* caliper fitting is critical as there is not a lot of clearance back there when everything's installed.
The calipers are from a '76 Chevy 1/2 ton pick-up/blazer.

 

These are the brake caliper brackets I got from parts Parts Mike online http://www.partsmike.com/store/store...on=show_detail Went with these so I wouldn't have to use the dust shield which can get bent in to the rotor. Plus, these wont rust and they have more clocking options than stock mounts and they're much more heavy duty.
The pads I am using are for a Chevy Impala Police Interceptor. They mount up the same as Chevy K10 pads, but have a lot more surface area for better braking. Once I find the link to where I found this info, I will post it.

I like the way you handle the brake line situation.. I went the UBEr cheap route.. I put the brake line in the drill press and over drilled the fitting.. YUP and it wrks great

 

i did the same with my rear calipers (your front are my rear)... used the police package pads. much bigger surface area which helps with the heavier vehicle.

Sorry for the delay folks. Life is super crazy when you're a single parent to a 6 year old little boy lol!
Nothing really new to report on but my front axle will be pretty much finished right after the holidays.
Currently I am working on my Jeep's rear suspension. I just finished installing new leaf-spring packs with (pro comp) 2-3 inch add a leafs installed as well. I also removed the stock rubber bushings from the leaf packs and replaced them with (daystar) polyurethane bushings with greasable bolts.
Next order of business is to install (H.D. OFFROAD ENGINEERING) shackle relocation kit so I can have my shackles sit at the proper 45 degrees of angle(or close to it) and it will help lift my Jeep in the rear about .75 of an inch. The angle of the shackle when it sits and the amount of lift you can acquire with this kit is all dependent on where you mount the shackle.

 

No progress on the axle... Funds are short due to the holidays. I did score 4 aluminum Jeep CJ wheels(5x5.5 BP) with 35x12.50x15 BFG all terrains for $100 bucks. I painted them black.

 

Just put a lot of money down to have the axle completed in 3 weeks! Will have pics shortly.

 

Nice job on the wheels. Black always looks better to me than aluminum or chrome on a jeep.

Enjoying the axle project. Reminds me I need to get busy on all my projects to justify my plasma cutter, welder, and other metal tools I keep having to explain to my wife I needed so badly.

Seems like all of the heavy lifting in this project is finished, or you seem sapable of doing?


Of course you do know you set the bar right high as far as axle build/writeups go. Ths means when I build my rear steer60 I am going to have to do a pimp write up like you

 

Here's what I'm paying for...
All the major stuff I'd screw up on LOL! Crawlertech4x4(local company here in Denver) are experts when it comes to setting up axles. They're one of the best in the industry when it comes to parts and fabrication and anything to do with 4-wheeler's. The inner-c's and all the mounts are setup for a 6 inch lift. I can weld, but I wouldn't trust myself with a front axle or getting all the angles and measurements correct.

 

Also got my SYE kit from JB Conversions installed the other day thanks to Josh at SFF Customs in Parker Colorado. The Jeep's gonna be sitting a little over 6 inches now.
I also installed RC's shackle relocation kit if anyone's interested, let me know, and I'll post pics. They took about half an hour to install and correct the heck out of the shackle angle while adding a little bit of lift. I also have the H. D. OFFROAD ENGINEERING shackle relocation kit http://www.hdoffroadengineering.com/...relocation-kit, but I don't like how it interferes with the hitch and gas tank skid mounting locations.
