Yea if you want to paint you're hood a flat color and go through all that effort just so you can put lights there. Still not going to be very useful.

Quote: Jus throwin this out there but my buddy had his mounted in the same place, and his glared off the hood and blinded u more than anything. It may of jus been how his was angled but it was pretty bad
And this ^^^ would be my first thought with lights mounted that low. You're either planning to aim it sideways or straight at the sky. Any other way would be useless.

Unless they're only for looks ...

OK SERIOUSLY NOW - about the glare, what about just throwing on some FLAT paint onto the hood? That should reduce the glare.[/QUOTE]

Well my buddys jeep was charcoal gray and sanded down ready to paint and it still glared. So idt painting it flat would work real good

You could paint the hood, but a glossy hood will actually reflect the light more like a mirror and send less back to you. The problem is you're not going to keep the hood nice and clean and glossy, you'll get dust, dirt, and mud on it, and then THAT will reflect the light back at you. Kind of like turing on the flood lights on the house that light up the back yard, and then trying to see out in the woods or across the field with a flashlight. You can see usually see farther with the flood lights off since your eyes aren't dialating to accomodate the extra light.

Really it all depends on what you're trying to do. If you just want to be able to see a half mile down the forrest road, you probably don't want the lights there. If you just doing tigher trails and want to see within close proximity of the vehicle (aim them more off to the side) then they may work for you and the extra glare may not bother you that much. It really depends on what your goal is. The biggest thing that would drive me crazy would be having an nice big shadow out in front of me.

I've thought about mounting lights in that same spot. I couldn't see the glare being that much of an issue. The hood IS angled down. I'd try it. Hell, I probably will try it.

If roof lights cause bad hood glare (and they can) I can def see lights sitting practically on the hood doing pretty much the same.

But I could be wrong now ...

wow sorry guys for not updates lol thought this thread was dead after the guy post Dropped on me to sell his own light mounts...

but to answer and solve your wows about my light setup....

my plan as it was ended up being pretty darn entaled... my hood now, already has a matte finish to it and i've "mocked wire and powered" the lights and the glare is not that bad... KEEPING IN MIND

the hood angles down enough and with my positioning it would set the lights just on the edge of the body line, also the lights i was wiring up had a directed pan so the lights actually spread out flat and wide, not a whole lot of hood shine... my plan was to have them position at "11 o'clock and 1 o'clock" if you can get that....
also the Lights' glare will not Shine Back at you, it would glare on the hood but not reflect back into your eyes

as for wiring the wire would snake under the hood and then through the firewall to my switch box...

but unfortunately i have not gotten anywhere with them, since my last post i have since finished the major work on it and now drive it every week...

When you get time to get them mounted up, let us know how they work for you! I hate it when people start a thread about something and then don't update when they're done with project X or figure out problem Y.

By the sounds of it you're setup would work great. Keep us apprised as it comes along because I would be interested in doing it if it comes out as you are hoping.
