Wrangler style XJ/MJ mounts...
alright after getting some other fab projects done in the garage.... and looking at a few other styles for light mounts... i've come up with another FAB project
i've spent a few days pondering how to mount my PIAA lights like the wranglers and have and decided to fab a flat plate that bolts through the dead space pocket next to the air vents below the windshield...
probably would either rivet it down or use some self-tapers
visually would be mounted something like this.... minus the hand and arm haha
now this could be used with any light setup just by simply changing the light bracket to a c-channel style mount like this
i'll prolly get the cut'in and fab'in later this afternoon or earlier this week
BTW the PIAA light set i bought (from a buddy) didn't come with and brackets or wire harness etc, thus the reason for an odd mounting style

not to be brash but i saw the first "a-pillar" mounts you made and wow, what a scam, i mean you fool everyone with a well made mount off someone's site and then you show them a single banna-peel looking mount that you want to sell them... seriously, but your second set aren't bad but i feel i could make better A-pillar mounts myself though... besides i'm aiming for keeping my lights within the body line for tight trail riding purposes

they need to be made where you could fold them backwards so you could open your hood... unless they are far back enough that the hood wouldnt be bother by them. if so then disregard my comment.

what size steel are you thinking about going with? I would suggest not using self tapers. I hate em haha. once you elongate those hole by say hitting a tree with the light, you need to good bigger. I would either rivet, or even better, just take that piece of and bolt it down real nice. any idea of how you think you are going to route the wire?
either way, cant wait to see how these turn out.

The mounts need to be high enough to avoid the glare, but low enough to not be annoying to the driver.
Routing the wire should be really simple, you're already over the engine bay and near interior access.
Very cool idea.

I guess I'd have to see an XJ with lights like this, but I don't think that would be a very useful place to have lights unless you're pointing them off to the sides of the trail. I would expect there to be a big shadown out in front of the Jeep for a distance before the light actually hits the ground. The Wranglers having the narrow hood wouldn't have this problem like an XJ. Glare would be bad too, especially when you get a lot of mud and such on the hood to reflect back the light back at you.

i like the placement, but i wouldnt do it personally. they wouldnt be pointed at the road or the trail, mostly at your hood unless u want them in the sky.
on a side not, how many different colors is your jeep!?! blue fender, black hood, and grey metallic a pillar?!?

Jeepjunky - you missed the green windshield wipers too!
OK SERIOUSLY NOW - about the glare, what about just throwing on some FLAT paint onto the hood? That should reduce the glare.
