Making some wire disconnects so when i take my doors off i don't have to take the kick panel off every time i can just disconnect in the rubber boot. i need to disconnect 4 plugs. 1 with 8 wires and 2 with 5 wires and 1 with 1 wire. any ideas of where i could buy some?

Right now I'm working on trying to swap in the front door connectors out of a Grand Cherokee into my 98 Cherokee. The Grand's come apart in the door jamb and have 23 wires (in the driver's door atleast). I should have it done in the next few days (busy with the long weekend), and plan to post pics if it works.

If you do this, I will be very interested. Does you jeep have power windows, door locks, power mirror adjuster, and speakers?

What you need is some "D-Sub" connectors. They come in many different styles, but find the ones that will work for your application. Not sure how much you want to spend, but give them a try. Just search "D-Sub" in google and find the least expensive place.

All I have in my doors is speakers and I made quick disconnects out of old 4 pin molex connectors from an old computer power supply.

That's pretty slick. I am embarrassed to admit I had never thought of that.

I have lots of old computer hardware laying around (thats my other hobby which used to seem expensive until I got into Jeeps) and decided it would work great.

A trip to the pic n pull could net you any type of weatherproof plug with various numbers of wires. it could be from anything, just wire it in.......super cheap

What I have found to be easiest if you do have power windows. Remove all the bolts for the kick panel and screw for the trim piece next to the door next to the kick panel. It makes getting the plugs unplugged very easy. To make things even easier make the opening where the plug goes through larger.

I can get the doors off my jeep in 5 minutes with this method. You don't need the screws on the kick panel it holds tight in its spot without the screws.

If you just need 2 wires or 4 wires, use trailer connectors. They are cheap and weatherproof.

Well this is what I'm planning to use for my wire disconnects (as I like having the power windows/locks/mirrors/speakers.. 20 wires in driver's door, 19 passenger, with extra's incase I go heated mirrors).

So far I've only gotten part of the passenger side started (no free time and lack of heat shrink so far). But it'll pretty much be like looking at a Grand Cherokee (only I put the connectors the other way for a cleaner look).

One side of connectors installed (may make a cover later, don't go doorless in mud/rain yet though):

This is the side that'll get mounted to the door:

How it looks connected (not wired to door yet):

Might just be me, but I haven't noticed this done for doorless, so I'm waiting to come across a problem with it to find out why lol.

you could just go to the junk yard and find some male and female connectors and use them I have manual doors but speakers in them so I soldered in some more wire to the factory wiring plugs are easy to get to

I have found a factory disconnect on my Wife's car, VW MK3 (Golf/Jetta/Cabrio) Her car is a 2001 Cabrio and the wires twist on and off in a slick way. Since i have an extra set of doors from an 00 parts car I'm going to put them into my Jeep and see what happens

I had only the speaker wires to worry about, but they sell waterproof connectors for that gauge wire on amazon in varying connector numbers. You could have two of the big ones for all those wires. Then go to the junkyard, and get two sheet metal plugs from the rear doors and poke a hole and thread the wires through. Thats what I'm doing on mine and it's really easy to use. If you're overkill like me, you can get firewall screws to make it watertight. Or you can just get a firewall grommet and drill it in

2 pin that I use

4 pin that's available

Firewall bushing

Firewall grommet
