Find one on craigslist or buy one at a swap meet. As long as theres no arc marks or moderate damage your local welding supply store will certify and fill it. Thats by far the cheapest way.
I have a welding wire question. I just got a Hobart Hefty cc/cv suitcase welder from my Dad. He had an extra one. It came with an almost full spool of flux core welding wire in it. It works very well just have to play with the settings before I start using it. The question is I measured the diameter of the welding wire and it is .080". What size welding wire would this equate to .035, .045? I understand that the flux core wire is tubed shaped and would be larger than solid welding wire but I did not think it would be that much bigger.
Thank you
I found the answer to my question above. At the time that my Dad had purchased the welder from work they were welding road plate together and need .078 wire. That is why that welder still had the heavy wire in it. I just got a 10 pound roll of .030 so I'm set to start welding any jeep projects that come up.
Scored big today, got a FREE welding table from my buddies father in law who is moving and didn't want to take it with him.
Its a 4x8 sheet of 1/4" plate on the top. Staying on the side of my house for the night until I can get some casters to weld on the legs and clear a spot in my garage.
I'm also getting a bunch of steel he doesn't want tomorrow. Various square stock, tube, angle, flat stock, etc. probably a good 800-1000lbs of steel and nothing under 4' length along with a 4x8 sheet of expanded metal. I'm stoked.
