they may run upgraded axles trail riding at first but most say they run them also because they can find them easily in the JY vs the ford axles...

and i think i read that they were tapered on the build that nstyfox posted... pretty sure anyways but i read like 5 builds... im pretty much thinking that the waggy axles are a bad choice period really... only good thing is getting them close to stock width but otherwise everything else is from the fords (brakes rotors spindles for 5 on 5.5) or aftermaket inner axles and stronger guts...

Stock xj axles are 60.5" wms-wms waggy 44s are 61.5" wms-wms. Just for clarification. So, Yes you were right when you said that they are one inch wider.

Whats the GA tire coverage laws? I'v seen guys run a fullwidth axle with H1 wheels to get tire coverage.

The H1 wheels have like 7.5" backspacing or something like that.

And if there are no laws restricting you and this is a trail rig... see where i'm going.

there isnt any law for this... its a "go as big as you can" fest down here... actually the laws not to alter a stock vehicles +or - 3in but thats so stupid nobody cares... as long as you dont go over a 44... i run the H1 wheels on my 03 cummins with 1.5in spacers/adapters... this moved my tires out 1/4in to get away from the sway bar and control arms... for my jeep i planned to order a set of recentered wheels from a guy on pirate who started up a business doing it and selling the tires wheels rock sliders and all... but im not real sure what you ment about where your going with this... or whatever... lol... im thinking of acouple different things... lol... oh yeah and for future readers the H1 wheels have a small inside diameter so whatever axles you run you have to make sure they got small brakes... even with 1.5in adapters on my cummins i had to shave off alot on the calipers...

I considered the H1s cause I run 8 lug axles but didn't like the selection in 16.5" tires and I already had the MTZs that only had 2 runs on them. Just FYI it is a PITA to run a 15" wheel on the Ford 8 lug front because the twin piston caliper is huge. I did a good bit of grinding and wish I had gotten 2.5" bs wheels instead of 4". I still have about 3" of tire under the front fenders running a 12.50 but Jonny Law doesn't say much around here either plus I trailer any farther than 30 minutes. Good luck on the build and finding a driver drop 60 under a grand.

Have you searched on pirate4x4?? Wow i never knew the waggy 44's are only a little longer i thought they were a true full width that had to be cut. Are they even worth the work and running thou? I want to put 35's on my d30 and an arb locker

Some misconceptions here, not sure where some of your info is coming from.

The only coarse spline inner shafts used on FSJ's were in 67-70 J-Series trucks. All others used 30 spline inners which are larger than a D30 shaft.

The reason the Ford HP is so desireable isn't just the simple fact that it's a 44. Ford HP44 axles are more desireable for clearance and R&P strength, but the biggest factor for some is the massive 1/2" thick axle tubes.

ahh makes sence... maybe where i read that he didnt know only the older styles were the weaker ones... or something... i dont know... but i read that in one of these D44 builds... i found a guy with a 2 door cherokee rght down the road from me... hes got D44's front and rear... on like 8in of lift and is a trailer queen... hes got the ford D44 but its not cut down... its got some kind of control arms that mount to the 2 wedge or angle iron looking things that are welded into the axle... the ones that people cut off to narrow... was weird? maybe thats how ford mounted them in the first place i dunno... some shop custom built his suspension... but it looked ggoooddd... also his pinion was pointed right at the Tcase... so maybe they changed the knuckle angles... dude paid $1200 for them both already setup for a XJ... wish i could find that deal... lol... im gonna keep an eye out for one... or maybe just the whole truck... i should have got the 78 bronco that was on CL forever here for $1k... dang it...
