Default Triple Threat Rocker Sliders

A project born out of necessity and circumstance rather than an actual need for something this insano.

My rockers are pretty much gonzo, so I wanted to build some rocker sliders but my budget didn't allow for 2x6 tubing...I'd rather spend the money on suspension and gears......BUT I had enough 2x2 tubing to make my own 2x6.

I dare you to crush these baby's, might only be .125 wall but as you can see with this kind of vertical support they will be pretty much indestructable.

I still gotta finish welding them, grinding them, prettying them up a bit, but here's a peek.

I'll weight one when I'm done, curious how it will compare to 3/16" 2x6 tubing.

Whacha think?

The amount of man hours in these is considerable, but its good welding practice........

Used an online calculator and its actually just over 1 pound lighter than 2x6x.188 wall.

And will be way stronger due to the vertical 'ribs' in the middle of the 2x6. A great idea that I will definitely keep in mind if my rockers calf out.

It was dirt cheap for me cause I had most of it laying around, but if I had to buy it it would have been $175 for all the 2x2x.125. Not sure what the price of 2x6x.188 is? But im guessing if mine are a pound lighter than they are pribably cheaper too, weight=money!!

Unless you are getting your welding supplies and grinder wheels and electric for free (like a convient school shop or something) that's a lot of cost to be considered too.

That being said, I've considered doing thus with a chunk of 2x3" and a piece of 2x2" for the added strength and awkward 5" width

Doesn't look like much penetration on the welds from that last picture. Not good if that's the case. You might not crush them, but you can certainly knock them apart.

Great idea though.

Thats just the end of a tack, not a cut cross section, should have plenty of penetration!

Yup, steel up here is ridiculous. I bought 2 pieces of 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x .125 5 feet long and they charged me $52. And when they screw you like that they don't even kiss ya first!
