Any pics of how those pieces connect to the frame? And do you have any other, or stronger ways to keep it latched? I personaly dont trust those trailer pins. I recently made a tire carrier myself so im just currious. Nice looking ZJ from what i see tho

They shake more than you think. Its simple to add a piece of 3/16 plate behind the pin with a nut welded on. Drill a hole through your swing and put a bolt in it. Weld on a piece of pipe (or whatever you have) to the head of the bolt so you can remove it without a wrench. Just a thought...
looking good, I'm glad that you have taken the BS (damn haters) in stride and used the suggestions... I have a few ideas going in my head for a different kind of carrier, just need to think out the latch...

That's my tire carrier. One bolt straight threw 8" long goes through top and bottom and the bracket straight to frame. Barely shakes been using it for 4 weeks no problems. The metal on metal part sucks though slowly grinds it so I may coat it with bed liner. It stays closed with a simple hitch pin and it's enough. Just keep going how you want and you'll be able to tell what's good and what sucks and then make changes.

This is what i did. Cost less than 12 bucks. Latch from a farm implement store like 10 bucks. and a bolt. It held up through a day of hard wheeling, and highway driving. I don't worry about locking it (half my doors don't even lock!)
