so im aware ill get a lot of people bashing me here but i really think the idea of a street jeep is cool. i have a 97 2 door 4x4 that i would like to drop 2.5-3". planing on 4:56 gears with a set if 18s and street tires. anyone have any pointes on lowernig the front i don't want to cut the coil i want it done right. im going for a gmc typhoon kinda thing but with an xj. any pointers or help would be great.

well, first, start with adjustable control arms. you should be able to adjust them in far enough. if not, a simple cut and weld could get those to a good length for proper caster.
as for coils, there is no lowering coil specifically for the xj, but there is other vehicle types that are the same diameter. ford f150 comes to mind.
then there's the t-case. hoping you have the 242 select-trac with full time option. if not, a simple swap for either the 242 or even the completely full time 249 quadra-trac would be my choice. you don't want the 231 command-trac case for this.
just keep in mind, you need to have the same diameter tires front and rear. but the rear could be a bit wider and would look great.
just get a t-case skid if you're gonna lower it so you won't rip it off going over speed bumps or into driveways.

thanks for the pointers it's going to be a long road i have a 4.5" lift and sye all brand new in box but i just want to do something different.

lol never know for now im holding on to my options. i love the lifted cherokee look and i do a lot of wheeling but a 2 door lowered xj would just look killer i think

It would probably be cheaper/ easier to buy a older model 2wd and do this. That's the best part about the xj. Cheap very dependable transportation. My opinion is have the best of both worlds. U already have the lift and the SYE and that's more than most.
