So me and my buddy did a really cool mod this week.
We started out with a stock 97+ front bumper. We also used some fog lights out of an '03 beetle. We trimmed them down 3" from the back and cut the brackets off them.
After that, we cut holes to fit the glass into the bumper end caps.
Next, we trimmed the styrofoam so the outside of the fog light housing would fit in there.
We mounted the fog light ballasts to the back of the bumper, and also drilled holes for the wires.
We caulked the end caps and fog light housings up and let it sit over night.
After we put it all back together, this is what she looks like.
What do you guys think? Any questions feel free to ask.

They're bright for fog lights, but not KC daylighters bright. As for the clevises, he says they're for looks, but I'm talking him into making steel brackets for the back of them that bolt to the frame rails.

I agree, they do look nice. Good job. Be careful in parking lots. Others may bump in to you and brake them.

Do you think this would work with the pre-97 bumper guards? I have some small fog lights that I think would look real nice in them. I never took one off the bumper, so I have no idea what lies on the inside. I think they might be all hard rubber instead of styrofoam. Which would be a pain to drill into. I'm also thinking of an idea for the rear to put an extra reverse light. I like the look of something relatively flush with the bumper.

The pre-97 bumpers don't have the styrofoam behind the end caps. But I'm sure you can cut the bumper and end cap to fit your fog lights in there. The one we did wasn't hard, it was just time consuming. It was definitely worth it in the end. He's still riding around using them every day with no problems.

I sized them up, my fogs are just a tad too big, haha. Literally too wide by about a 1/8in. I'll have to think up another plan to use them. My latest idea was to fab up a light bar and mount a few on that, using the original fog light holes as the mounts for the bar. It'll look clean and be very functional.

Dont be surprised if that balast goes out seeing as its a xentec (or the bulbs if they came from xentec as well).
Just a word of advice about xentec. If they work fine for you, then keep on using them and dont worry about them. But if they are to give you trouble.. then just go ahead and buy a different set of ballasts and bulbs. Stuff from xentec is half and half most times.. Half the people have no problem with it, the other half's equipment craps out along with every replacement part they send out to you.

these look great.. But I cant even keep the hello 500's from getting broke position in the stock location. First nite turning around in the woods and they'll probally be smashed. If its just a road-runner, there great..
