safari rack built ubber cheap
Been laid off for a little over a month now, in my free time i started cleaning my garage and came across some steel i had laying around. below is the result... at this point in the build i have about $1.00 invested. In case you cant tell, the lower frame is some angle from a heavy duty garage shelf and the round is steel tent poles. vertical supports are also from the shelf unit and are welded in place (hence the $1.00 investment.) I have been running around with it on for a couple days now and it is holding my full size 235 spare tire. For now it is being help on with ratchet straps. will be painting it flat or satin black later this week as well as getting something to attach it more permanent. once i am back to work i will be adding some lights fore and aft. Main purpose is to haul my ice fishing gear like sleds auger and pop up shelter this winter.

Heavy duty shelving supports - I know you said you had it laying around, but it does make great sense to use it. The last shelving set I had held 1,000 lbs per shelf, so it would be plenty strong!

Thanks guys. I have already looked into using new angle and thin wall cold rolled steel tubing that i can bend using a conduit bender and making another one for my dad to mount on his vehicle.

well, paint may wait a while. we are just to cold around here lately to do it right. I'm not sure how i want to permanently mount it either. I know i am leaving factory cross bars on and i don't want to tie into the gutters either. anyone have pictures of how you mounted yours? i have seen the hose clamp method just want other options to pick from. been running it for a few weeks now just strapped to the roof with a pair of ratchet straps.

call it modern art, give it a funky name, and sell it for a million. Then you wouldn't have landlords
