Just did a roofrack build. General dimensions 48"x60". Used 1" square tubing 1/8" wall and some spare 1" tubing 1/16" wall. Turned out pretty good. Used JCR Offroad drip rail mounts. Coated with some Rustoleum Undercoating for now. Some things I would do differently: Use 1/8" wall on the whole thing with expanded metal base. Add expanded metal to the sides for a meaner look. Overall happy with my first attempt. It works.

Looking for ideas. Also willing to build more for reasonable prices. Let me know what you want. There are many variations and we all know that shipping wont be cheap the bigger they get.

how much material did you use? im planning in one soon and think square would be easier since i can chop it and weld it at 90s instead of bending. but dont know how much material i need to buy length wise.

 

I'll snap some more pics tomorrow. As far as the amount of material needed... really depends on how you want it. I found that 4'x5' is a nice size and if you use square tubing you can actually 45 everything for a more professional look. The possibilities are endless!! The best way to do it is to sit down and draw up some type of plan and calculate how much material you will need and then add a few more feet for errors.
