Default rear extension to sleep on

so the back of a jeep is barely big enough for me to sleep in myself diagonally, so sleeping with my wife just won't do. anyone ever build an extension to come out the back and increase the length of the bed so they can sleep in the back of their jeep? is this even reasonable?

Like a fold-down extension, or an extension of the whole cargo area?

They are...

Get creative. Platform locking to the rear bumper area going out a few feet with support poles would be enough to sleep on with hatch open. Make an enclosure...

Dude that overland tent is awesome!!!

I think the easiest way to make a fold-out type deal is take an mj tailgate or make a tailgate type thing, and trim it to width. Make a hinge on the bottom of the tailgate and where you want it mounted to the jeep, then just get some limiting straps/tailgate limiting bars and put them on the tailgate you made. but makit it so you can fold it into the cargo area and still shut the hatch. don't forget about that. haha

or u can split the hatch in half. so the bottom folds down and the top goes up. i sleep in the back of my s-10 blazer all the time when i go on long road trips. and that works great. but when i get time on my hand i plan on splitting my tail gate i found a sweet tread for it. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=557715. he did a pin type of deal i plan on using the hinges and locking mechanism off my s-10 blazer.

The table leg idea is good. But instead of folding out from the jeep, Why not just make a board that latches to the tailgate striker. With adjustable table legs, you should be good to go.
