I'm also looking for a hitch, tire carrier, jerry can all in 1 package and am also going custom. JCR now has a BEEF spindle as well, so I'm shopping around. JCR is where I think I'll buy my spindle though.
3x5 wouldn't change it, it depends how much you cut away. You could cut more to taper it into the leg just as easily with 3x6 as you would with 3x5

Default 99% complete

Bumper with swing arm tire carrier is about 99% complete at this point. Only thing left is to install filler plate on top to close off gap between bumper and hatch.

Spare is offset so I can't even tell its there when making a lane change. No rattles so it seems to be ok. Will need to relocate license plate.

Next is interior mount for the hi-lift jack.

Thanks to everyone who posted their builds on the web since its a combination of a couple of things I saw through web searching and the forums.

Nothing yet, local PD hasn't said a thing yet so I have put it on the back burner for now.
Only hiccup at this point is drivers side rocker protection occSsionly rubs on the bent up sheet metal. Need to pull bumper and beat it up a little bit. Painted finish didn't work to well, prep'ed, primed, and sprayed using cans, seems not to be durable enough. Was thinking of getting it stripped and sprayed by a local body shop or maybe spray on Bedliner.
