I'm welding BBQ grill grading inside the floor of my roof rack to hold whatever I put up there and I'll have some left over so I was thinking about welding some in front of the lights to protect them from branches. Do you think this would hurt the light distance bad enough that you wouldn't put the grill in?

 

nope. most come with it, but plastic... well not most, but some

 

I may put the lights up to the grill prior to install and see how they do. I'll probably put the added protection to protect my investment! Those lights aren't cheap!!! It's not like I need to light up a football field anyway so why not

 

but what happens when you have to drive through a football field?

 

I dont think making a grill for your lights would hurt the output, not noticably anyway. My lights been up on my racks for months now, and never had them close to being broken. If your smashing through trees fast enough for branches to break your lights, I dont think you should be worried about the lights. Also, my lights are on flip back brackets, when direct pressure is applied the lights flip back to go under the obstacle, then pop back up.

that sounds pretty cool!!! where'd you get those brackets? the lights are gonna be recessed behind the rack rails anyway...i just wanted to add the grill for extra protection

 

A local parts store. Have not seen them anywhere else, but Im sure they're out there.
