Phone/GPS/Spedo-Computer/Music Holder
This isn't a big fab job, but it is something I whipped uptoday.
I use my phone as my GPS, my music player, and recently as a speedo. My speedometer works fine, but I use my phone to control everything else, and the app does a lot of other stuff besides displaying speed. I got tired of reaching down and having to grab my phone when I wanted to change the channel, or switch songs, so I just rested it on the instrument cluster. That worked fine, but was a little hard to reach when driving. So, I dug through the junk drawer, well a few drawers, and grabbed some things. Had a cell phone holder for motorcycles, put it all together and then had it right at my fingertips, and is still far enough back to not impede the steering wheel.
Pieces and parts
Motorcycle cell phone holder
Together, not tightened or aligned
Tightened up
Ran wires for audio to the aux in on the radio, and a fused lightning wire for power
GPS in plain view, but not blocking windshield view
Speedo-Computer with audio controls on the left side, GPS on bottom, and speed minder on the right. (iPhone SPEEDOMETER app - $3.99 for full version)
Now I don't even have to take my hands off the wheel to play Clash of Clans ... just kidding, nut everything at my finder tips.
Took it apart, and it is sitting in the garage with some semigloss black paint on it. Will put final product back in tomorrow morning.

Or you can use a goose neck windshield mount where the suction cup holds with a lever applied, holds even on very rough trails. This keeps all my gauges open to view them.

Good stuff. Just got myself an iOttie phone mount that I put on my windshield for now. Trying to figure out the best placement!

I really didn't want to put anything up in the windshield, just a personal preference, but did want to be able to see all the info at an easy glance. Plus, I drive in NJ a lot, and don't need any more reasons to be pulled over (out of state tags are a magnet).

I have that app too. Perfect for tracking trails routes (only if the trails are mapped I'm pretty sure) and approximate cost of the gas you used while driving. Plus a "black box" to keep track of your speed for the last 20 minutes if you get pulled over for speeding but you weren't speeding. And it has a Heads Up display option and will mirror the screen so it will reflect the display onto the window when laid on the dash (you can use a stick pad for those who don't want a screen mounted stand so you can lay your phone flat down). I had the full version but not much difference.
