I used to have a 4Runner so I can vouch for the toughness of these sliders. Why are the XJ sliders so dang expensive?
Anyway, they have a sick deal on the xtra cab sliders. Only $99! (but they are 78" long). I measured my useable uni-body frame and I measured about 52". I am thinking of ordering these sliders and cutting an end off and re-welding the end to the right length. What do you guys think? What problems do you all see? Bare with me. I'm new to XJs and thanks for any help

the only issue i for see could possibly be the strength of the weld, but if you are a good welder then i dont see any issues

Try to keep any cuts near the supports. You may have to cut them on both sides of the center support to get them to fit & look right. Keep us posted, I need sliders & this may be easier than building from scratch.

Yep, I'd cut the center section out, and replace the support. Once you get tehm shortened, it should be pretty easy. How were you thinking of tying them into the frame? Weld??

These sliders are all round tubing. Most XJ sliders have a square tube that bolts or welds to the pinch seam on the rocker panel. With that round tube you will have trouble doing that. So you will have to add one as well as a flat plate to weld or bolt to the frame.

You may also want to stiffen the area your attaching them to. Their are some kits out there but angle iron has been used too. Depending on your skills.

and you have to mount them to the pinch seem.. the unibody frame will tear if you just mount them to that so you gotta mount them to both the pinch seem and the frame
Ok, I am trying to see what you guys mean by mounting them to the unibody. These gussets can be purchased for another $19.

Does anyone have any shots of sliders mounted to the unibody?
Btw, my uncle is a welder by trade and said he'll help me put them back together. Welds should be solid.

those mounts in that last pic would work then you just need to figure out how to attach to the pinch seam i would use some angle iron welded to the legs of the sliders that can be drilled and use one nuts and bolts to attach to the angle. hope that helped some

Thanks for the link! I see what you mean about attaching to the pinch weld. And so why is that necessary?

You need to attach at the pinch seam because the unibody rails are not strong enough by them selfs to support the rails.

Spreads the load out better.
I always thought their shorter sliders for $135 was a good deal. I was going to get them for my Ranger project, but might have to get 2 sets of the $99 sliders... Ranger AND ZJ.
For those that don't know where to find this great deal,
