Hey guys I've had a couple of people ask me about my snorkel and wanted to know if I had a build thread on it. So I took a bunch of pics and i'll try to explain it the best I can.

Firts off what you will need.
from lowe's I got
(1) 3"... black abs pipe I think the shortest piece was like 5'
(1) 3"... black abs 90 degree street elbow
(2) 3"... black abs 45 degrees
(1) small can of abs glue
(1) 4"... dryer vent ( I painted mine black to match)
(2) 3"... abs/pvc pipe hangers
(1) 2" or 2.5" ( don't remember which size) Electrical conduit pvc about 4" to 6" in length
(1) 2" or 2.5" ( which ever size conduit pvc you buy needs to match in size) Electrical conduit junction box
(2) tubes of black window silicone sealant.
(1) small can of pvc primer and pvc glue

From pepboys auto I got
(1) 3"... air intake adapter plate
(1) 3"... flex air intake duct
(1) 3"... rubber air intake connector sleeve
(2) 4"... hose clamps
(3) 3"... hose clamps

I think that's everything you'll need. Now I already had a few things so I didn't need to buy everything but what I did buy I only have about 70.00 to 75.00 dollars in it.

Now let's get started, first you need to remove the stock air box and seal off the factory inlet hole. I use a piece of small sheet metal I had laying around and riveted it to the air box. Then I took the silicon and sealed around it.



I also siliconed the holes at the bottom of the air box as well, but I then added the 3" air intake adapter plate to the side of the air box with rivets and also siliconed it to seal it all the way around.



I then reinstalled the air box and moved to the fender. I traced the outline of the small piece of pvc in the location I wanted and had my buddy use a plasma cutter to cut the hole out. I then wedged the pvc through the hole and attached the Electrical conduit junction box to the piece of pvc with appropriate primer and glue and then used 6 sheet metal screws to fasten the junction box to the fender and also used the silicon to seal around junction box to fender and also seal around junction box lid.

I then measured the length of 3" abs cut to fit and glued (1) of the 45 degrees to it attached it to the junction box with the rubber air intake connector sleeve and use (1) of the 3" abs/pvc pipe hangers and attached it to the fender to hold the abs in place.


I then measured the 3" abs to go up a-pillar and cut to size glued it to the 45 degree that's attached at fender and glued the other 45 degree at the top and then glued the 90 degree street elbow on top of that and then attached the dryer vent at the top of the 90 degree street elbow with a 4" hose clamp. I also used the other 3" abs/pvc pipe hanger and attached it to the A-Pillar to help hold the abs in place.

After that I then attached the flex hose to the pvc that came through the fender with one end and then attached the other end to the adapter plate on air box. Tightened down the. Hose clamps and used silicon to help seal.




After that I added the drop in k&n air filter and it was all done.

Hope you guys like it, it works awesome and a lot cheaper than the arb snorkel.

Any change in HP or mpg? Thinking about doing something similar but have concerns bc its my DD. Can u drive this in the rain for extended periods of time

At first I unscrewed it from its fender location and pulled it back closer to fire wall as far as it would come and tucked it under the brake booster and it held in place. Im actually in the process of extending the all the wires so it will stretch and mount on high on the fire wall so I can water proof it.

Hey I didn't notice any change in mpg or hp. My cherokee is my dd as well so there's no concerns there, and the dryer vent at the top keeps all the rain out. I drove my jeep for 3 hours in the pouring down rain on a vacation trip and had absolutely no prob. With it taking in any water what so ever. I even checked the filter once I got to my destination and it was completely dry.

Why isn't it possible? It should still work the same, even if the air box is on the other side compared to my location you would just run it out that fender. You would still be able to run a snorkel, I've seen right hand drives with a snorkel.

Great, im gonna have to copy your idea, I think im going to skip the electric junction box though and try to make it work with just pipes

Go ahead and copy, your more than welcome too. There's another cherokee I've seen in my home town I haven't met and talked to him yet, but have seen his cherokee in a parking lot and he used a 90 degree black abs to come out the fender but I didn't think it looked all that good. The junction box Allowed me to keep it flush up against the fender. If you used a 90 degree like he did then it would stick out a few inches away from The fender. If you tried to make it more flused to the fender like mine then you would have to got a mighty big hole to stuff most of the 90 through the fender to keep it more flush. Believe me when I say it dosentt look good. But its your jeep and you may like the look of it better so do as you wish. Just though I would give my opinion toward it.

yeah i was thinking about that in class this morning how it would stick out, i was trying to think of something similar to the bottom bracket of a U clamp (like exhaust clamps) to bolt onto the body to keep it stable. I think im gonna grab everything along with another 90 and visualize it, see how it looks. I like everything about your design except for that junction box, only because its a junction box lol im sure most people wont figure it out but anyone who spends time under the hood like i do would give me "wtfs".

My whole town builds up these xjs, so i gotta dress to impress.
