Ha ... I got mine because I live in a city where they would carry you off if you weren't bolted down. I bought a Cobra 75 CB so I could remove it when not in use, had the antenna wired so I could conceal it in the trunk when parked. I have the windows tinted 15% dark. My stereo equipment is virtually invisible. My center console lock box has been on the Jeep (in plain view) about 2 years now and not 1 attempt has been made for it. My front windows are not tinted.

Draw your own conclusions from that ...

I purchased two in-car gun safes from www.center-of-mass.com

They're perfect for the times I need to temporarily store my gun in my xj or one of our other cars.
I had both boxes keyed alike, so I only need to carry one key, regardless of what car I use.

You can get them in different sizes, coded, or keyed.
They offer two mounting options - bolt them down or use a metal braided cable around a fixed object in your jeep / car.

They also sell traditional gun boxes that can be bolted down in your XJ and vehicle specific locking center consoles - unfortunately not one for an XJ)

Lots of different options - check out the website.

It's too bad Tuffy doesn't sell a locking center console for 97+ xj's, or I would have already bought one.
I have a Tuffy in my YJ and consider it to be just as secure as any gun box.
