im planning on making a light rail for my 97 cherokee. i dont want to use the factory cross bar because of its lack of rigidity. i found one for the zj:

i was planning on making it out of 3/4 or 1 inch emt. my question is, how would it fasten to the factory rail, like the one on that website? i have a welder, so i can weld on the mounting tabs for the light, and the mounting feet.

also, if this seems like a bad idea, i was also thinking of using the factory mounting ends, and replacing the cross piece with a piece of 1"x2" square tube.

what do you guys think?

 

i just took both my cross bars and put a plate between the 2 to support the lights and it works fine
