I think these would look great on the fender with louvers on the hood! I may have to do that. Of Course cutting through the fenders also to make them functional.

Here's mine with vents from Go2marine. $18. Got a vent for the bumper to. Hope to mount a tranny cooler behind it. I don't notice it cooler on the road, but, after driving for a hour, the hood is cool to the touch and ALOT of warm air is coming out the vents when I stop. The hood is blemished from the heat buildup previously.

Installed vents on my XJ a few weeks ago.

I used expanded metal for the vents and stainless steel for the bolts.

The vent's look great but i would be concerned about rain or snow getting on all the wire's on your firewall.

Would a larger vent with a larger drip pan do any good, or would the drip pan just hold the heat in?

As long as the drip pan is spaced far enough away from the vent; the heat will go around the drip pan and out of the vent. I would bet that an inch of space would be sufficient.
