This link should still work... You may have to cut it and paste it into your browser if it doesn't go right to it...

well (obviously) you need to decide on what you plan on running. i like the idea that you have of either a 3 or 4 link. i myself built a 4 link kit. get yourself some good flex joints for the arms, dont get heims. i chose the johnny joints and they have treated me well. your biggest hurdle will be how your gonna mount the brackets to the frame. i plated the inside and outside of my Jeep and welded the link mount to the plate. after a year of moderate wheeling, they have held up perfect.
Id much rather have a true 4-link setup, ive just gotta do some measuring and checkin out of things to make sure ill have clearence for the upper links at up travel. I prety much have the idea of how i want to build my main cross member and how it will tie in and bolt to the frame, etc. The only thing i havent exactly fingered out is how to build the crossmember without having to drop the whole front end loose if i ever have to pull the transmission.
There's no such thing as a "true" four link, it either has 4 links or not. However there are different styles, parallel, triangulated, etc. 89Eliminator has a parallel 4 link, although they are not exactly parallel but they are not triangulated enough to be considered triangulated and still require a trac-bar. Now the Triangulated four link has either the lower or upper arms triangulated or both in opposite directions. With this setup you do not need a trac-bar but you will need to do full hydro steering to escape bump steer.

Hell i cant figure out what i want to do and with how cold it is i cant get out and really do any measuring and do some figuring up. Ive searched and searched and have had no luck in finding a 4-link build in the front. only 3-link. 4-link keeps bringing up BDS and RK kits.
Im still working on mine but heres a link to it,http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum/sho...d+design+ideas
It can be a 3 or 4 link with the track bar.

and triangulating the uppers on the XJ gets pretty difficult because there will be interference issues with the oil pan and driveshaft. i'd say most people run 3 links with a tracbar.
After all the setups ive found on the net, especially over on pirate ive decided on a 3 link. Upper link being tied in ontop of the punkin and of course with a panhard. Though im think if im gonna do all this, might as well go ahead and upgrade to a better front end...

I'm in the middle of 3 linking mine with toyota FJ80 axles. Made my own 1/4" frame tie ins and running 2.5" johnny joints/bushings. Here are a few pics of what i've got so far.
Just some of the mockup. There will be 3 bolts going through the "frame" with sleeves inside.
