This is speaking from experience. I used to have two 97+ Xj soundbars in my rig.
nvm I understand what you are saying. but to the naked eye it appears they are one piece.

You could always wire in a toggle switch for the interior lights.

My '01 doesn't light up when the hatch is opened, but maybe mine's broken?
I have damage to my right rear door, and the metal doesn't push the button in to cut the lights. I had to tape an eraser to the inside of the door to make contact so the light goes off.

He asked for homebrew so i suggested the switch. The obvious fix is to find the problem. Haha

Simple solution is to just remove the sensor, it has yellow wires the wire has a plug like a foot from the sensor. All you have to do is unplug it

When I got this jeep I just figured out which switch was bad and unscrewed it and monkey with it till the light would turn off when the door was shut.

Mines the same way. I messed with the switch and alignment and couldn't get it to work.

You have to run it into a fuse box EAITHER under the hood or in the cab not the terminal or it will put power to it all the time. That's how my civic is wired up, find a fuse that comes on with the ignition and put it in there and put the fuse back in ontop of the wire and it will run when the key is turned on..
