Default Home made snorkel

Just thought I would post pics so far of my snorkel I did in case it gave others ideas to do it. Just need to get the cap on it. I'll post pics when it's done.

I used 2 inch PVC. Thursday I'm getting the cap for the top. It looks better that I first thought and it was only about 30 bucks.

not a bad start. have you capped the front of the airbox yet?? also what made you want to run the Fly-off Newer style flares on your pre97 xj???

just curious also but have you sealed your computer and distributer cap and etc?? cant tell you how many people i've seen go into water holes and fail because they didnt do all the other proper work to keep their important stuff from taking a bad drink.

Nice one there. A well done snorkel from PVC. This makes a good Weekend DIY project for me though.

I did cap off the airbox, and have extra plates if anyone needs any. I am going to water proof everything else this week before I go to Rausch creek this weekend.

Plain PVC? Did you paint it?

THANK YOU! I was going to relocate my ECU and run flex hose to the fender, but I'm just going to cap the front of the airbox, seal the drain holes on the bottom, and run my 2.75" or 3" ABS off of the rear if it will fit. If not, I'll just do the flex hose off the back to the fender, then pipe the rest like normal.

How did you mount it to the outside of the fender and up the A pillar?

I was just wondering how you get air through the box if you cap off the front and what you use to waterproof the computer and cap cause i really want to do this to mine aswell.

The air comes through the second hole that was cut into the box. The same whole the rest of the PVC tube connects to. From there the PVC tube runs out the front quarter panel and along the A pillar.

A cap ofsorts needs to be put on the very end, or something to prevent rain water from entering but still allowing air to enter.

with the distributor cap you take silicone sealant and apply it to the rubber O-ring seal on the bottom side of the cap, maybe some additional sealant around the outside edges just to be safe... then extend and run a breather tube into your cab (or where ever you want) so it can breathe......

for most of your harness connectors go pick up some Dialectic grease, and apply to the female end of the harness connectors so it covers all the contacts..

as for your computer, have a field day with ziplock bags, duct tape zip ties, or anything else you can think of/find to encase the computer in a water proof bag/sack... you can prolly google it and find some answers
