its not real hot, but there is some heat.

Alright, thanks for letting me know. I had planned on bedliner, but Pepboys sucks around here and didn't have what I was looking for. The cargo area is definitely seeing some bedliner, though. I'll probably redo the front with bedliner the next time I have a little bit of free time on my hands.

I really didn't notice a difference. it depends if you seal down your floor caps in the front or not also. I sealed mined down and plan to drill a hole and put a smaller plug in it. but there isn't any noticeable difference in the road noise.

It will if you do it right, my def. of do it right would be sandblast or wire wheel, then apply POR-15 and then topcoat that with Herucliner....

Slugger I'm doing the exact same thing to my '98 xj it has rust in the same parts of the driver and passenger floorboards as your's but not to that extent, at least I don't think. I don't know for sure though because I haven't pulled the carpet all the way up I only peeled it back to take a peek under there. The only difference between mine and yours is that I'm sandblasting and then applying POR-15 where needed. I have just two questions for you:

1. Could you have Heruclined over the silver stuff, was that sound or heat deadner? (I'm guessing you removed the silver stuff to get at the rust underneath it)

2. With the silver stuff out how hot is the inside of the Jeep, is it bearable? Any issues with shoes melting to the floor?

BTW you may want to check out that windsheild seal as with flex from offroading the seals tend to tear same for the rear quarter panel windows. I'm planning on get mine resealed after I'm done doing everything to mine...

Sorry if this was a thread jack..... Did not mean to do that

dont worry your not hijacking.

I was thinking of using POR 15 also, but it would have costed more money and I would have had to have it shipped. It was just easier to use herculiner, got everything I needed in 1 day and started.

There actually wasn't any rust under the silver stuff. Im not really sure what it was, but the two in the back (infront of the back seat) they covered up 2 plugs that were sealed down. then the ones in the front, not sure what they were used for. I'm guessing it was either used for sound or heat. But I didnt herculine over them because eventually they will start to peel off or lift up some and I didn't want the herculiner coming with it. There was also water starting to get under neath it, so it was better to remove them then go over them.

the jeep isnt really hot at all just where my feet go I can feel some heat, but nothing that will melt your shoes. its only warm when i touch with my hand.

to get the rust off i used wire wheels, and some green roloc discs. to scuff up the paint i used medium surface discs just enough to get the paint off.
then I used acetone to clean up before i put the herculiner on.

I did two coats of herculiner. First coat, then the second coat i put on 1 hour and 30 minutes later. These photos are taken 15 or so hours after i lined it with herculiner. Its still tacky in certain areas and not fully dry yet.

here it is with the silver stuff off now ( it was a pain getting the silver stuff off but after i got it off i did the best i could to get the rubber stuff that was stuck to it off by sanding it off )

heres the drivers side floor panel

passenger side

heres the rear

now here is the front cleaned up some

Here it is all scuffed up.

I also took off the plastic step things and herculined that in the front and rear

there was a few little rust holes so i put JB weld stick over it. the jb weld worked good. its as hard as a rock on there.

here it is herculined. I plan to do the cargo area eventually. I still have a little less then half a gallon left out of the gallon of herculiner i bought.

Sorry i couldn't figure out how to get a single pictuer to copy but how did you pop open those little hle opening in the floor? I'm about a month away from doing this myself...

Look under the bottom of your jeep under the plug.
Youll see a a piece of metal you can bend back (this metal goes over the floor board) just bend it back then it should pop out.

Also I Would recommend to pour some of your herculiner in a seperate bucket/plastic paint roller. because it will thicken some. then if you need more just open up the herculiner again and pour yourself some more.

For two coats i used a little more then half a gallon. I plan to do the back also. from what I see.. 1 gallon will do the entire inside with 2 coats. also in my opinion it was better to use the paint brush to dab everything first then on the second coat use the roller in open parts and dab again with the paintbrush in corners. I would buy the 1 gallon herculiner kit. its cheaper to do it that way opposed to buying the 1qts for 30 dollars each.

I got it from advanced auto parts. they also sale it at pepboys. and Im sure a lot of other places. The 1 gallon kit costs 90 dollars. it comes with 2 rollers and a paint brush. Also other things you might want to buy is a paint stirer for your drill to stir up the herculiner. and you will want gloves. and something to pour the herculiner in as you need it.

you can also buy 1qt at a time for 30 dollars a qt. but its cheaper to buy 1 gallon for 90 dollars.
