Default Heavy Duty Low Pro Rack

Im working on a very low profile heavy duty roof rack. Frame is 1 inch round tuding with square 1 inch tubing as the cross bars 48"x70" 6 cross bars will post pics when I get some. Will hold a spare tire with a removeable mount to possibly haul other things in the time of need. I only get every two weeks to work on it and that sucks when its done I will post pics and details.

I know, right? I want to see some pics, I feel like this is the teaser trailer to a movie preview. I have been thinking about building my own for a while. Found a deal for lights for under 20 through Walmart on Frugaldad that I couldn't pass up. Can't wait to see the pics.

I'm thinking on doing something similar, I need to check metal prices first. basically a basket rack with the front corners cut at a 45, low and tight with expanded steel for tie points.

So far I have a couple hours work and no money in it. Gonna order jcr mounts or make my own should have pics this weekend its gonna be sweet. I was hoping to get some interest on this cause ive never seen one like it. Will keep you guys posted asap.

The funny thing is I just talked to jcr today and the reason they don't sell them anymore is because shipping was expensive that and they had troubles with shipping companies bending the tabs. They started working on a bolt together shipping friendly rack but it has hit the back burners i'm told. Just an fyi.

We couldn't ship our rack for less than $175 Guess how many times customers felt we were price gouging on shipping? The cost of shipping, coupled with shipping problems and the fact that we sold around 10 a year, became the driving catalyst to discontinue the rack.

We would like to make a bolt together option that would save on shipping, but we are so busy right now (we've double our employees in the last three months) that we just can't make it a priority right now.

Although, we will still keep selling rack mounts

Yeah, shipping for big items is just, well sucky. I was going to order my metal online for my rack, and then I saw the shipping price....nvm. Brittain Welding in MD has been great.

Ok guys sorry for the wait here are the pictures of the main part. Ended up going with brackets that are like the old JCR mounts instead buying some. Hope you guys like it.

Nice work, how many feet of tubing did you use? Any mounting pics and of your brackets? Also what thickness did you use for them?

The wall thickness is about 1/8th inch. I think I used almost 40 feet if I remember right. If you scroll up a jcr rack is posted. Sorry I ran out of time and didnt get the mounts put on. I will update this when it is all done and bolted up. The suspense is killing me lol!

What about a knock down/weld it yourself kit?
