The billet "button" is actually a switch extension that is normally used for hydraulic/airbag switch boxes. I've built a few mini trucks and had a few laying around. They work out perfect and look cool as a door button.
That's ****ing brilliant. I honestly never would've thought of that..

Lookin good. I'll be doing the same thing soon, I just don't plan to try to make mine as pretty as yours. I also plan to cut a little differently.

I definitely plan to use the same latch idea that you used. I wonder if it'll work just as well on the back doors.

I plan to cut like so:

Doors have no role in structural support of the vehicle.

Thanks low range.

I'm not sure about the rear door working the same for the release. I have an extra set of rear doors but no latch to look at.

I worked on them a little more today and got them pretty damn smooth around the cut. I'm going to pull off the door trim and emblems later and totally smooth out everything in prep for primer.

It will do that with doors if you don't have unibody stiffeners

I normally pull all 4 doors off anytime this thing moves. The doors always stay at home and only go on to keep some of the weather out since I don't have a garage. Once I cut the doors in half I'll leave them on. No, modifying the doors does not effect the structural integrity. (Especially with the cage. )

The rear latch is the only reason I'm planning to leave the back half of the door handle in the rear. If I could get away with cutting straight across I probably would.

Fair enough, hahah. I plan to stiffen up the frame on my WJ and go doorless all summer (if i can get the money), but, i don't know yet. High school budgets are a *****.

Did a test fit before if got completely done and ready for paint. I also cut the passenger side door. Got excited and went for a test drive around the neighborhood. They are perfect for me. Got me much more motivated to get them done.

Think those would work on a WJ door?

But, how is it if you want to rest your arm? It seems super low.

They look great though!

I don't know if they'd work or not. You can just grab some tape and mark out how ever you want. It's pretty much what I did.

The "new" top of the door is 1/4" higher than where the original arm rest was. It does look low but they worked out perfect.

I might go do that tomorrow and just get a feel for it! What'd you do for the inner panel? (I have power doors and what not...). Did you just take the trim off? Or cut it?
